  • The Water Flag promotion

    On Friday 26th of May, the Green Team organised a lovely gathering to promote our next flag The Water Flag. The Green Team along with some parents have been working very hard to inform the children of Fossa about water conversation. The Green Team have been reading the water meter on a weekly basis to calculate the usage of water being used in the school. The Green Team decided to hold a slogan competition to see if the children could come up with some ideas. We had eight winners and then an overall winner.  The Green School parents presented the prizes which were all associated with water. The following are the winning slogans:

  • Fossa School pupils show their appreciation for local footballing hero David Clifford
    Electric Ireland who are the sponsors of the All Ireland Minor Championship visited Fossa School recently. They wanted to get an idea of what Gaelic football meant to the pupils in the school and what they thought of Fossa’s footballing hero who has been nominated to captain Kerry minors this year. Suffice to say they weren’t disappointed!

  • Kenyan Education Project
    Students of 5th and 6th class received a talk from Eddie Sheehy of the Kenyan Education Project. The children of Fossa have supported this charity over the last number of years through donations for the chess club. Eddie thanked all the children for their generous donations and spoke about the children, schools and programmes that are supported through the charity.

  • Spikeball All-Ireland Finals

    Members of 5th and 6th Class have qualified for the Spikeball All-Ireland Finals. The team came through County and Munster competitions to make it to the final 8 of Ireland. The All-Irelands take in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. Best of Luck!

  • Fossa Under 16 Community Games County Champions
    A select number of pupils from Fossa national School both past and present competed in the Community Games Under 16 'Group Music Competition' on Saturday February 11th 2017 in Keel Castlemaine. The group performed a Beethoven Russian Folk Dance and 'Sweet Caroline' by Neil Diamond and were awarded gold medals for a flawless performance.

  • County Football Champions Division One

    Fossa School were crowned County Football Division One Champions 2016/2017 for a historic first time on Wednesday November 16th in Austin Stack Park Tralee. They defeated St Olivers Ballycasheen in a thrilling encounter after extra time under floodlights in front of a large crowd.   • The winning All-Ireland Minor Kerry Team visited our school

    The winning All-Ireland Minor Kerry Team came to visit our school.  Kerry team members David Clifford from Fossa, Mark Ryan from Rathmore & Dara Moynihan from Spa came with the winning All-Ireland Cup. The children sang a fantastic song for the players. Dara Moynihan was named man of the match so we were delighted to meet him. David Clifford spoke to the children and told them to work hard and to listen to their coaches, parents & teachers. He even gave us homework off so we were all delighted!! Ciarraí Abú!

  • Junior Infants on their very first day of school


    All the Juniors will line up outside the main door from Monday onwards. The children will then come into the class rooms and look for their names on their tables. They will appear like the picture below.

  • Community Games U12 Relay County Champions

    A big congratulations to our gold medal winners Abigail Murphy, Alicia Burke, Alison Butler, Bianca Lejwoda, Melissa Ahern and Rachel Wallace who won the U12 Relay race in An Ríocht Track Castleisland.

  • Football League 2016
    A fantastic football league was organised by Mr. Corcoran this year. The football league has been running for the last number of week during lunch times. It was certainly enjoyed by all children. 
    The finals of the league cup and shield were held last Friday. The whole school enjoyed the Junior and Senior Finals.  Senior Final Winners: Longford Slashers. Runners-up: Glenswilly

  • Fossa National School Band

    Music has a positive effect on children; it’s a skill, a hobby for life and it helps them to relax in a stressful world. It is a powerful tool that helps children develop coordination and motor skills, enhances concentration, builds confidence, boosts self-esteem and teaches children patience and discipline. Music challenges children to grow and overcome obstacles as they face new experiences every time they learn new music or set foot on stage.

  • Sports Day


    Fossa NS held a fantastic sports days on Thursday. The children enjoyed various sporting activities during the day. The children played basketball, soccer, dodge-ball, orienteering, agility games, circuits and parachute games. The day ended with some very competitive egg and spoon races and sack races. A wonderful day was enjoyed by all staff and children. Well done everybody!

  • Fundraising for MS Ireland
    On the 25th May Fossa National School raised €400 for MS Ireland with a no uniform day. 
    On behalf of the whole school 4th class presented Norrie O'Neill with the cheque.

  • After School Drum Lessons

    After school drumming lessons with music teacher Cathal Flood took place again this school year every Wednesday from 2:50-3:50pm for pupils from 3rd to 6th class. These lessons were facilitated by Miss Hayes as part of the Kerry Music Education Partnership ‘Take Note’ programme.

  • Our MasterChef 2016 Experience

    4th Class participated in MasterChef this year. We learned a lot of things along the way like reading recipes, measuring, budgeting and working together. I enjoy baking so I had a lot of fun! Even though we didn’t win we still had a great time and I was very happy for my friends who won. 

    We were divided into groups by Miss Hayes. We had planned to do a treasure cake but then we changed it to a train cake and called it the Choo Choo train. We worked hard on it and it was a fun experience.

  • Hurling Skills Competition🏆🏆🏆

    Well done to James, Sam and Charlie who represented Fossa School at the Kerry Skills Competition for hurling. The boys displayed fantastic skill and technique on the day at Dr. Crokes Pitch in Killarney. Hopefully we will see them playing hurling for Kerry in the future. Well done boys!!!!

    Charlie Keating will now go forward to represent Fossa NS at the County Skills Competition in Austin Stacks Park, Tralee. We wish Charlie all the very best.

  • Junior Entrepreneur Programme Showcase Day at the Malton Hotel

    5th class students enjoyed a spectacular day at the JEP Showcase Day at the Malton Hotel in Killarney. The showcase day was opened by world famous dancer Michael Flatley and also Jerry Kennelly founder and CAO of

    The children from Fossa NS displayed their product “Glitter Globes” and they also had the opportunity to see other products created by other young entrepreneurs. Some of the other products we saw were magnets, keyrings, tooth fairy pillows, soap, fresh juice, lucky horse shoes, cook books, calendars etc. The 5th class children received the JEP 2016 flag and plaque for their school Fossa NS and it will fly high above our school next week. The children enjoyed lunch and also a disco as part of the day. It was great fun!

    Well done to the children who took part in the Kenya Education Project Quiz in the Castleross Hotel. It was very exciting quiz and  it was for a very worthy cause. Well done to the winning teams. They finished first and second after a tiebreaker.

  • 🎽🏆🏃School Run Challenge 👟👟

    Well done to 5th and 6th classes who took part in the AIB 5k School Run Challenge through the beautiful Nation Park. The weather was beautiful and everybody had great fun. The children also met some local celebrities. Irish Athletes Niall Tuohy and Jessie Barr, Kerry footballers Colm Cooper and janes O Donoghue. A big congratulations to Michelle from 6th class who finished 3rd girl home in the primary school section. Well done Michelle a great achievement!

  • After School Guitar Lessons

    For the second year Miss Hayes and the Kerry Music Education Partnership provided after school guitar lessons to pupils from 3rd to 6th class. 

    This year Mr. Sean Treacy taught the children how to play together in a small group and individually, every Wednesday from 2:50-3:50pm. The children really enjoyed learning how to play the guitar and they were delighted to perform in front of their families during their final lesson.

  • Green Schools - An Energy Action Day

    On Wednesday the 17th of February the whole school went out to the astro turf.

    We had to use energy so we did things like push up, sit ups, running on the spot, jumping jacks and the plank.

    Together we did this for ten minutes we did not take a break we used as much energy as we could.

  • Silver Music Success

    Congratulations to the under 12 and under 16 music groups who represented Fossa in the Community Games in Keel Community Centre on Saturday February 20th. All children are members of Fossa National School Band. Both teams have worked extremely hard to secure a silver medal in this very competitive event despite being much younger than their competitors.

  • Fantastic Win for the U11 Credit Union School's Quiz team
    Well done to both our U11 and U13 teams who proudly represented Fossa school in the Killarney Credit Union School’s Quiz in the INEC recently. 
    A huge congratulations in particular is given to our U11 quiz team who were crowned champions after a nail biting contest. Over 60 teams from all over South Kerry competed in what became a very intense competitive final which took more than one tie breaker round to establish Fossa the Killarney Under 11 Credit Union Quiz Champions.

  • Junior Entrepreneur Programme
    As part of our Junior Entrepreneur Programme Connor represented 5th class at the Premier of Star Wars. Connor was treated to a VIP day. He started his day off at the Aghadoe Heights Hotel where he had hot chocolate then he was transferred by a private car to Killarney Cinema where he was interviewed and treated like a celebrity. Connor then watched the Star Wars movie. Well done Connor.

  • Fossa National School East Kerry Football Champions 2015

    Fossa School were crowned East Kerry (6 to 8 Teacher )Champions after a 16 year wait. They defeated Faha, Rathmore and Kilcummin on their  way to winning the cup. Captain Rian Colleran was presented with the Ulster Bank Perpetual trophy (Cumann na mBunscoil East Kerry).

    This year pupils in Fossa National School participated in the Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal 2015. 
    As part of the appeal, the pupils filled a shoebox with great gifts, including items for school, small clothing items, hygiene items and a treat.
