Healthy Eating Policy

The creation of our healthy eating policy involved teachers and the Parents’ Association Fossa National School aims to help all those in our school, parents and staff to have healthy eating habits and to see the importance that good food makes to our health.

Healthy lunchbox ideas

Sandwich or alternatives:

Pitta bread, scones, wraps, crackers, baps, finger rolls, baguettes, petit pan, pasta or rice.

Fillings or alternatives:

Cheese, ham, chicken, turkey, cold cooked beef, pork or lamb
Tuna fish, salmon, sardines, jam, marmite, peanut butter, egg salad, pate
Chicken wings, chicken drumsticks, grilled cold sausages, hard boiled eggs, quiche, pizza.

Fruit or alternatives:

Mandarins, grapes, raisins, bananas, apples, peeled oranges or kiwi, pears, plums.
Cherry tomatoes, carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, dried apricots.

Snacks:

Yoghurt, cheese strings, triangle or cubes, scones, crackers, cheese dippers, baby bel cheeses, frubes.

Healthy Drinks:

Milk & Water are the best drinks for our teeth as we can drink them at any time during the day.
Unsweetened pure fruit juice contains fruit acids, which can attack teeth so they should only be taken with foods.
Yogurt drinks or actimel.

On Friday’s along with their healthy lunch the children are allowed to bring to bring a treat from the following list:
Cereal bars, winders, buns, rice krispie buns or bars, muffins, biscuits, flapjacks, small snack chocolate bars.

Food and drinks not allowed in the school at any time include:
Fizzy drinks, crisps, nuts, sweets, bars or chewing gum.

Any special dietary needs to be reported to the class teacher.
