FAI Killarney Area Girls Soccer Tournament
On Tuesday 11th March, the girls of 5th and 6th class competed in the FAI Killarney Area Girls Soccer Tournament hosted by Killarney Celtic. Despite the sunshine, conditions were bitterly cold. In Group four, Fossa Black got off to a great start, winning against Holy Family National School. One of the highlights of the game was Kate Brosnan’s brilliant hattrick. Fossa Black continued their winning streak against Cullina National school. Despite this strong start, Fossa Black suffered back to back defeats against Caherciveen NS and Scartaglin New Central School and were unfortunately eliminated from the competition. This was a great effort by the girls gaining great experience and many of these girls will be eligible next year. Fossa Black consisted of:

In the tougher of the two groups, Fossa Red got off to a winning start against Kilgarvan wining 1-0 with Eve O’ Halloran scoring the deciding goal. A 0-0 draw with Faha National School kept Fossa Red in contention for qualification from the group stage. Fossa Red faced Lissivigeen in the next group game. Fossa took the lead early in the first few minutes thanks to another Eve O’ Halloran goal. The game remained on a knife edge with both teams having chances. An outstanding goalkeeping display by Emily Kavanagh saw her save a penalty and keep out multiple chances. Ciara Vaughan was solid as a rock in defence and had a wonderful goal line clearance to help maintain their lead. Fossa didn’t crumble under pressure and held on for the win. Needing just 1 point to qualify for the final, they faced Currow in their final group game. Despite their best efforts, they just fell short to the eventual winners of the competition and lost their last game 3-0. Well done on your performance. Fossa Red consisted of:
