Attendance Policy

Each child to who the School Attendance Act applies, (i.e. those between the ages of 6 and 15) is obliged by law to attend school every day, on which the school is in operation unless there is a reasonable explanation for not attending. The school authorities are obliged to notify the school attendance officer when a child is absent regularly or if a reasonable explanation has not been provided for an absence by the child’s parents. Under current legislation a school must report to the Education Welfare Board the names of all children who are absent for more than 20 days during a school year.
